We understand that surrendering a beloved pet is one of the hardest decisions an owner can face. Life can change suddenly-through illness, housing issues, financial hardship, or family circumstances-and sometimes, despite our best intentions, keeping a pet is no longer possible. You are not alone, and reaching out for help is a responsible and caring step. Our goal is always the same: to ensure the safety, health, and future well-being of every animal while dignity and compassion.
If you are struggling, we encourage you to reach out before making a final decision. In some cases, we may be able to help you keep your pet through: Temporary foster placement, food or supply assistance, training or behavior resources, low-cost veterinary referrals, pet-friendly housing resources. Many challenges are short-term, and support may allow you and your pet to stay together.
If surrendering your animal is truly the safest or most humane choice, we are here to help guide you through the process. By surrendering directly to a rescue or shelter rather than abandoning an animal, you are giving them the best possible chance at a healthy, stable future. Please know, surrendering is not a failure. Asking for help is an act of responsibility. Your honesty helps us place your pet successfully.
To ensure the best outcome for your animal, we may ask you to: Complete a surrender form which includes your pet's history, medical records, behavior, and personality. Provide veterinary information which includes, vaccination records, spay/neuter status, medications, and known medical conditions. We then ask you to schedule an intake appointment. Many rescues operate by appointment due to limited space and foster availability. In some cases, we may recommend rehoming support or temporary solutions. PLEASE be patient-rescues are often operating at capacity, and intake depends on space and resources.
Sharing accurate details about your pet's behavior, health, and needs helps us to: Match them with the right foster or adopter. Prevents returns or stress-related issues. Keeps staff, volunteers, and other animals safe. There is never any judgment. We only share the goal of doing what is best for your animal.
Saying goodbye is painful, and it's okay to grieve. Choosing surrender when you can no longer provide proper care is a loving decision rooted in your pet's best interest. If you are considering surrender or need help exploring your options, please contact us. We are here to listen, support you, and help your animal move toward a brighter future. Thank you for caring enough to ask for help!
